A) What is Brainwave Lab?

Brainwave is our newly launched science magazine. It is packed with science fun‐das and practical ways to apply them in life.

At Brainwave, we believe that there’s more to science than a bunch of laws, rules and flat definitions. Science is really about being smart and a little strange. It’s about pattern‐hunting and asking the right questions.

As part of this philosophy, Brainwave Lab provides live learning experience to students of all age groups. This helps them gain a practical understanding of concepts and optimal knowledge retention, while having amazing fun.

Brainwave Lab’s motto is Do and Learn, It is Fun!’

B) What is the beginner course curriculum?

The introduction course is a beginner course in Robotics named ‘LOTSA BOTS’.  This course is for children between the ages of 11 and 17. In this course, a child can build and program his/her own Robo Toy in 4 hours and understand the physics concepts that make it work.

The introductory course curriculum is

  • Designing and Building Working Models
  • Graphical Programing Using Software
  • Use Feedback to Adjust a Programing System Output
  • Work With Simple Machines, Gears and Motors
  • Story Telling and Interpreting

C) What after the introduction course?

We have multiple courses for the children to do as they grow. These are categorized as follows:

  • Creative Inventors (for 4th & 5th standard students)
  • Inquisitive Scientists (for 6th to 8th standard students)

and

  • Innovative Engineers (for 9th to 12th standard students)

The curriculum for our courses is based on the regular school physics and machines & mechanisms syllabus.

For detailed break-up of the categories into courses and respective curriculum, click here.

The child can also take our annual subscription and have unlimited access to our Lab!

D) How does participating in these workshops help?

In addition to understanding the concepts of physics, machines & mechanisms and robotics through hands-on experiments, participants get to improve the following skills:

  • Eye-hand coordination
  • Creative thinking
  • Concentration – attention spans
  • Perseverance
  • Problem solving
  • Planning and organizing
  • Teamwork
  • Communication and self-xpression
  • Sensory stimulation
  • Visual discrimination
  • Fine motor skills

E) What is Lego?

We use Lego as a prime teaching tool in all these courses.

Lego is a sevety-five-year-old educational toys company from Denmark.

Legos are Interlocking colourful plastic bricks with accompanying array of gears, pulleys, levers, wheels, axles, motors, sensors, microprocessor etc. Students use these to construct buildings, vehicles, working robots and anything that they can imagine! Everything constructed can be taken apart and reused to build other models.

Some amazing facts about Lego:

  • More than 400 billion Lego bricks have been produced since 1958. That means there are about 62 Lego bricks per person of the Earth’s population!
  • The Lego brick was acclaimed ‘Toy of the Century’ by Fortune Magazine and British Association of Toy Retailers!
  • The Lego club has 2.4 million members worldwide!
  • Children around the world spend 5 billion hours every year, playing with Lego!
  • The Lego bricks sold in one year can circle the earth 5 times!
  • Lego in Danish means ‘Play Well’. In Latin, it means ‘I put together’!

What other interesting experiences does Brainwave Lab offer?

We are currently researching on Remote Controlled Cars and Choppers. Pretty Soon, there will be courses related to these!!
